Spoons for Spell Slots

What is spoon theory?
The concept of Spoon Theory comes out of a 2003 essay written by Christine Miserandino, a Lupus patient and advocate.
In her essay, she discusses that the experience of living with a chronic illness involves reliance on a finite amount of energy or “spoons” to complete daily tasks. Unexpected interruptions, like getting sick, can deplete this already limited supply. When our pool of spoons is low, it becomes difficult to get things done. At times, we may need to borrow spoons from our support system in order to manage. Learn more about Spoon Theory at butyoudontlooksick.com.
Relating this experience to TTRPGs, we can think of spoons in terms of “Spell Slots.” Some spells we can cast for free (Level 0/Cantrips) and others require the spending of a spell slot.
Spoons for Spell Slots is a Micro TTRPG supplement designed to simulate the experiences of people living with chronic illness. It is created with D&D 5e in mind, but feel free to alter these rules to work better for the TTRPG that you are playing.
